We rented a cabin at Chadron State Park for the weekend and it was wonderful! We all had a great time and definitely want to go back. We visited Fort Robinson on Saturday, but spent most of our time at the park. We went horseback riding through CSP and had a great time, beautiful views!

School is almost out!!! I cannot wait...and then in about 3 weeks I'll be saying "Aargh! I can't wait until school starts again!" :) Actually I think Tanner will be busy enough this summer between mowing and Super Foods that the kids won't have a lot of time together. That is a good thing!
Baseball and softball practices have begun, I am so ready for that. I'm gonna get my big bucket of sunflower seeds at Sam's Club tomorrow!
Janae is graduating magna cum laude from UNK tomorrow! Wow, we are so proud of her! We're sad she'll be moving to Pender, but happy that she got a job so quickly. I just wanted to be closer to Evan when he started school. (pout, pout) Oh well, I guess Gma and Gpa will have to take some trips!
Spencer and Jamie are settling into their new place in Arapahoe. Spencer started this week as City Manager and Jamie will start next week at the Cambridge Hospital. Konnor and Kaden are growing so fast. Konnor says the funniest things! He got in our $10 special the other day and says "I've never seen a car like this before!" How funny! So glad we'll get to see them all tomorrow!

Well, here we are almost halfway through the first month of 2010! Drew had a busy week of basketball and only a minor injury this time, no stitches :) Jade started basketball this week. Tanner's busy working and making money. Jim and I are busy chasing them around :) As I begin this week, I am trying to remember to always trust in God, "faith is being sure of things that are not seen". God's will is the best way and so I must trust and obey!

This was a great game! Broncos totally stomped Wallace. Drew had a really nice game and made every free throw! I am just totally impressed by that :) There were also two cute little boys there who of course had to get some camera time too :)

We had a great time in Kansas and Missouri for Thanksgiving. It was so much fun to see the Husker volleyball girls. Jade even got to high-five one of them! They won in 3 sets so that was even better. Of course mother-in-law Donna had delicious food for us when we got there and we never went hungry! :) It was great fun having Steven, Janae and Evan there and we all had fun at the motel pool. Of course I didn't get many pictures because I used all my memory space up at the game. :( But I got a new camera at the black Friday sales so watch out there'll probably be more pics than you can handle!

Our final Shorthorn football season is over! Wow, that's crazy. :) It was a great game and Tanner even carried the ball for a gain (not sure how much I'm a bad football mom). Anyway it was very exciting the uncles, grandpa and dad were all there to see it and sympathize with him when he got hit in the chicken nuggets. Ouch. So now it's on to wrestling! I can feel the ulcers starting now, so much for my long nails, they'll be chewed short soon.

These pics aren't very good, our camera is not working right so I had to use my phone. Let me assure you though he is perfect in every way and of course cute! He was born yesterday afternoon, he weighed 8 lbs 14 oz (big!) and was 20 1/2 inches long. Jamie was doing great when we saw her last night and Konnor is so excited! Well that summer went way too fast. I had all these plans and am still trying to process that, it's done, over...no more plans, you missed your chance. Wow, it's just crazy!
Fair was fun, the kids did well on their 4-H projects. Jade made a babysitting kit for toddlers that got a purple, her garden was a flop with the hail so she made a poster about that and received a purple, her muffins got a red and she was pretty disappointed but I told her that was good for her first year in 4-H. Tanner made an electrical thinga-ma-bobber that he got a blue on. He would have received a purple but he didn't file the nails off at the bottom. Oh well. He learned something so that's what's important.
The kids of course rode the rides every night. I went for a little while on Thursday and babysat Cole. I won tickets to 38 Special and let the kids go for us. What's that they say about if it's too loud you're too old. Hmmm, I must be old then. It's just not the same since I don't have my Lisa to take tickets with. Dad came down Saturday so we watched the parade and ate with him. Jade, Sarah and Sydnie were in a dance class this summer and they performed on Saturday, it was SO cute! Emily & Mollie Ringleman were their teachers and they did a great job! Jim & I were plagued by allergies so that pretty much ended our fair time.
School started right away on Tuesday and so we're off! Tanner's enjoying 8th grade so far, he's had homework every night but he doesn't complain. Of course football hasn't started yet either. :) That starts next week. Jade, my baby is in 4th grade :( Can't believe it! She has some great teachers this year though and she is most excited about the fact that she has a locker this year. Pretty cool.
Dustin's car had a little mishap so Jim's been working on that. Jamie gets bigger and bigger as the time quickly approaches for our new little girl?boy? to arrive. Haven't heard much from Janae since they got moved in, just busy with school. Drew is in his junior year and gets taller all the time.

Okay, this stuff really does work and it's 95% natural! Check out the banner to the right to learn more about it. I have lost at least 7 lbs (I don't weigh that often 'cause it's more about the inches). I have lost 4 1/2 inches off my hips and 4 off my waist. I am walking 3 1/2 miles 5 or 6 days a week, but I was doing that before and the weight just was not coming off. This has definitely given me the boost that I needed. I am down 1-2 sizes in pants as well and I feel great. The accelerate gives me much needed energy. Check it out!

Well, I'm starting to feel like I can almost catch up. We've had a busy month with ballgames, camps and life in general. Tanner & Dad had a great time in Arizona and I'll hopefully post some pics soon. It was a real blessing for both of them I think. As soon as he got back we started in full swing (no pun intended) with baseball and softball. Both Tanner & Jade's teams have done really well. Jade starts tournaments in Sutherland this week and Tanner's team will spend the week making up missed games with 3 away and 1 home. He'll also go to Chute Camp this week, which is a basketball camp that should be really cool. Drew started out playing baseball and in a basketball league but ended suddenly with an ankle sprain that looked kind of like a goose egg. Not real pretty. Evan just spent the weekend with us and we had a great time at the pool and picnicking at the park. He had to call 911 though because he forgot his blankie. He asked the "peacemans" to go to his house and bring it here. Dustin, Jamie and Konnor came down last night and watched the ballgames with us. Jamie finally has a baby bump and is starting to get a little uncomfortable. Konnor has fully entered the two year old stage. To make it worse he can talk so clearly that you understand EVERY word he says, not always good. :) Dustin is settling in at Paxton and likes his job at Ogallala. I think he likes being out of the big city. Well, I'm off to pick up Jade from practice. Just two more weeks and we'll be done with baseball! I'll probably catch up some more then....maybe :)

Tanner's last day of school is today!!! Yay! I really can't take anymore of this school year. He and Dad leave tomorrow for Arizona. I know that they are going to have a great time and it will be good for both of them. Jade has 4 more days of school, but hers I can handle. Not as much stress in 3rd grade. Well, since Dad will be here in a few hours I probably better go clean out his room! Pray for safety for Dad and Tanner!

Well, Jade is now 9 and sassier than ever. She got a bunny, a bike, and a black-eye for her birthday. She's calling it her birthday of the Bs. Tanner accidentally kicked her in the eye while they were wrestling with Dad. Then Tanner got hit in the head with a flying hurdle. Gave him a nice goose egg and split it a little bit. This wouldn't be the Harris household if someone wasn't getting hurt!

Okay, so I have definitely slacked in the blogger world. I knew I never should have opened a facebook account! Shoot! Anyhoo. Our camera is on the fritz again so no new pics yet. Tanner did a good job in wrestling for his very first year! He won two and was really doing great at the end. Now we are in track season. Drew is doing long, high and triple jump I think and Tanner is doing pole vault and long distance. We have had lots of 4-H stuff to keep us busy and we have the Girl Scout China Brunch tomorrow. When this weekend is over I will be glad! Dad is doing great, he made it to several of Tanner's wrestling matches. Jade & Tanner are fasting and it cracks me up what they gave up. Jade gave up TV which is like sacred to her, but I'm really glad she did it and she has done a great job. She wanted to give up the first day but we had a great life lesson on temptations and the reason for fasting. She is now doing it with a "happy heart". She told me she has to walk by the TV and say No, No, No TV! Tanner helps her out by shutting off whenever she walks by. Big help, thanks, I'm sure it's good for the TV. He gave up chocolate and Captn Crunch. He's a bit grouchy at breakfast! :)

District Heartbreak

After a nail biting year, the Broncos ended it with a nail biting game. What a heartbreaking loss this was! Arapahoe had only one loss on the season, so coming in we knew it would be tough, but those Broncos did an awesome job and only lost by 3! With only losing one senior they should have a great team for the next couple of years. I would post pictures, but my camera is being spastic...hopefully it will get fixed.
I also have pics of Tanner's first wrestling meet which was scary for Mom. I needed a massage and oxygen afterwards. He has placed 4th in his first two meets and we have 3 more to go.

I really have nothing to say, but I've been told by some people (Lisa Vlasin) that I should update my blog more often! So....Drew is playing well since he came back from his broken foot. Wauneta even beat Imperial 54-50! Whoo hoo! Drew is 6'3 but he looked so short next to Josh Schuman who is 6'9. But Imperial's height did not help them this time! Go Broncos!
Tanner started wrestling and says it is much harder than football! This will be my first experience being a Mat Mom, so please pray for me! The first time some kid hurts my little boy I may get mad! :)
Well, for no news I didn't do too bad. More later, hopefully with a very exciting update....that'll keep ya guessing!

Basketball

One basketball season done and one to go! Tanner finished his season off well with 8 points, in a 10-8 game! By the way we were the 8, but who cares! It looks like Drew will get to play again soon. The doctor told him 2 more weeks of staying off the foot and that was a week ago. They are really missing him and he is anxious to get back. I hope to get some pictures posted soon of Tanner's new do, but he's being a little camera shy. :)

Cold Weekend

Well, I wasn't very happy when it turned cold and I really didn't like to see the snow, but I did like the fact that it kind of made us stay home. We have had a nice weekend so far getting caught up on cleaning and things. We've also done some hair dying (you won't recognize Tanner) and some furniture assembly which can be grounds for divorce. Jim & I have done it so many times though that we're able to defuse the situation before it gets ugly. Jim pounds the board into place so it is immovable and then I (innocently) say. Oops! I think the groove was suppose to go on the outside. Then I give my very best "I'm sorry" look and giggle. Maybe he'll think it's funny. Yeah, not so much. So he pounds it back out, in the process breaking some pieces off. Oh well, maybe they're not important! Giggle some more. Still not funny. Oh well, we got it all together, just added some wood glue. It all works out and now we have a beautiful end table! I hope everyone else has as a good a weekend as we are. :)

I have been a bit behind again...Oops! I don't even have the excuse of basketball this week. Tanner did not have a game and Drew is out with a possible broken foot. He has to get it re x-rayed in about a week to know for sure, otherwise he is out for a month. We have so far avoided the flu...I think due to a daily dose of acidophilus. We've been on it for a year and a half and no flu! Knock on wood. We did have Evan this weekend. I picked him up Thursday and we took him to Grandma Kathy's this morning. The house is still standing but we're worn out! He is so much fun, but I forget how active a four year old boy is! Dad is doing very well. He bought himself a Wii for "recovery". Ha! He loves playing and the kids can't wait to go to grandpa's house now! That's about it for the Harris's for now.

Hmmm...lots. Thankfully Chase County Schools had a great idea this year and actually let the kids out on Friday. For whatever reason, when you know the kids don't have school the next week, the weekend is so much more relaxed. Tanner was busy Friday night and Drew had games both nights, but overall it was just a nice weekend.
Jade and I made cookies Saturday afternoon and Dad & Tanner helped decorate a little, and ate a lot! It was fun. I have never taken the time to bake cookies for Christmas, usually we do loaf after loaf of banana bread, but feeling a little nostalgic for my Mom this year, I decided my kids needed to know what their Uncles and I did for our Christmas tradition growing up. I'm glad we did it and according to Jade we're not done yet!
Jade asked me why we give each other gifts for Christmas when it's actually Jesus's birthday...Good question Jade and what a great opening to discuss the true meaning of Christmas.
I hope everyone can remember this year that as we celebrate His birth we also must not forget the reason He came to earth.

Disney on Ice

If you haven't ever been, you should go! It is a great show. Tanner, Jade & I went to Kearney for the day. We went through the Arch (Tanner had never been), shopping (not so much fun with an almost teenager(Saturday)), and then Disney on Ice. It was a good day all in all and the show was definitely worth it! Dad stayed home and went to Drew's first game where he scored 21 points! The kids & I helped Grandpa Allen decorate for Christmas on Sunday. Tanner played his first basketball game Thursday night in Madrid where he had 3 nice steals. That's our life right now, basketball, birthdays, and drama! Ya gotta love it!

We had a great day, lots of yummy food! Jim's step-mom is a great cook and we are being very spoiled. We did a little shopping today, not early though, we're not that crazy! We hit the flea markets and that's always fun. We went to our favorite buffet today, the Sirloin Stockade. Yummy!!! We'll go to Joplin tomorrow and hit the mall, YES!
I missed being with Mom's family yesterday, but it was fun being here too. We have obviously had a tough year, but we still have so much to be thankful for. God is so good to show me that time and time again. Thank you God for all the blessings this year has brought, for the comfort through the tough times, and for the year to come I thank You in advance for what I know You will do for us and through us to bring glory to Your kingdom.

Dad is getting kicked out of the hospital today! We are excited to go and get him and have him at our house for awhile. He is doing really well. His wound site looks GREAT! Praise God, no infection this time! We do have a lot of steps at our house, and that is our one and only worry right now, so please pray for safety. He has made such amazing progress, it is great to see him moving so much better already. Thanks for everyone's prayers. Feel free to call or visit while he is here. We will try to limit evening visitors, so that we have as little break in our routine as possible. We are so busy in the evenings with homework and activities, and I don't want to add one more distraction for the kids.

Well, good news all around. No school today, so the kids are happy! And Dad got along great with his surgery. Dr. Mackenzie was very happy with how things went and they did some extra precautions to help prevent an infection. Tiffany and I left from there around 8:30 or 9 last night and he was just starting to feel some aching in the hip. Probably Monday he will be able to come here. Thank you to everyone for your prayers!

Tiffany and I are in North Platte with Dad this a.m. He doesn't go to the hospital until 1:00 so his biggest concern right now is his stomach! :) I don't blame him. Please pray for us and for God to direct the doctor's hands. I'll update on here as soon as I can.

Dad will be having his other hip replaced on November 5th in North Platte. They will keep him there for a couple of days and then transfer him to Imperial where he will be on skilled care. Skilled care is essentially nursing care and the doctor checks in on you every 3 days or so. This way he will be able to get his dressing changes and Physical Therapy right there at the hospital. When he is released from skilled care, he will come and stay with us until he is fully recuperated and able to drive. We are looking forward to having him closer for awhile.

Dad & Daughter Day

For Girl Scouts, Jade's troop was going to go fishing with their Dad's. Well, Jim's not a big fisherman so he asked Jade if she wanted to do something else instead. Of course she asked, "Can we go shopping?" Dad says, "ummmmmm...well..... how about we go out to eat and a movie?". Jade thinks for a long time. Okay! So they go to North Platte and eat at Whiskey Creek (wonder whose choice that was?)
But there are no good movies showing, now what are they going to do? Then Dad does the greatest thing of all and shows what a really great Dad he is, not that any of his 6 kids have ever doubted it, he takes Jade to get her ears pierced!! Boy was she nervous & excited all at once, but she did it!

Rainy Days

It is raining like crazy today and I am loving it. I got to have lunch with my husband and soon the kids will be out of school (early out today) and we can spend the rest of the afternoon cuddling on the couch watching movies and eating popcorn. At least I hope we can...no fighting please! And obviously Tanner won't really cuddle, he's "over that". Which is actually a Jade saying. Pastor Todd told me the other day that Sonja overheard Jade saying at church that "I am so glad I'm here today, we were going to North Platte but decided not to. I'm glad, I am so over that!" Hello drama queen. Thank you Todd and Sonja for the laugh and for putting up with her!

Football

We are 2 weeks into practice and about a week and a half before the first game and we have our first injury....a knee injury of all things. I let him suffer for almost a week before he had to beg me to take him to the doctor. Well, maybe this is for real, okay kid let's go. When a doctor says hmmm as they are examining the patient, it's never good. And there was a lot of hmmming coming out of her mouth as she moved Tanner's leg around. Well.....she says it might be a small tear of his meniscus, you'd probably have to get an MRI. and then I'm hyperventilating. As they call in the trauma team to deal with me...she says okay let's just take it easy and see what else we can do. That's better. So take a week off of football, the MRI truck is here on Monday if it still hurts. Okay. Also, you could see Physical Therapy and see what they think. This is good. What does PT say? Let him play, if it's torn it's not going to heal on its own anyway so he might as well play. It could just be a tweaked medial collateral ligament. Do some stretches and see if it's better in 2 weeks. So this is what a sports moms life is all about, you don't need a mini van, you need an M.D.! Gotcha. Pray for healing and wisdom......and sanity. :)

Time Flies

I know time goes fast, but sometimes it just hits you harder than others. As I watched Tanner put on his Jr. High football uniform it struck me how grown up he is getting. We are watching Konnor last night and today and it's hard to believe almost 13 years has gone by since Tanner was that little. He is such a great kid and I am so blessed that God gave him to me. He and Jade are proof positive that God does not "make you pay" for your sins but loves us enough to bless us in spite of them.
God has been so good to me all my life. I am so greatful that Mom led me to Him early on. I miss her a lot. All of these milestone moments and special occasions, like Tanner's first game and Jade's "makeover" are the hardest, but God is seeing me through and giving me the strength to overcome the sadness. I had a dream the other night that she called me from Heaven and I was able to fill her in on all the things that have been happening here. Another gift from God.
